HISTORY

In 1947 Exxon established a railroad bulk plant in Sherman and Gainesville, TX.
On July 1, 1981 Bill Douglass
bought out this Exxon consignee in Sherman, TX. Included with the purchase was
an Exxon Transport division, an Exxon Tank wagon division, an Exxon Lubricants
division and a TBA (Tires, Batteries & Accessories) division.
Douglass Distributing was formed.
On August
1 of that same year Douglass Distributing
bought out another Exxon consignee located in VanAlstyne, TX. This purchase
expanded the Exxon Tankwagon and Lubricants divisions. .
In
1982, Douglass Distributing purchased
John’s Sandblasting (formerly a foundry) and expanded their compound located at
325 E Forest Avenue in Sherman, TX. In 1983 Douglass Distributing built their
Original Office
In 1983,
Douglass decided to enter the world of
retail. They open their first store (Lone Star #4) located at 1716 Texoma
Parkway in Sherman, TX. This store was closed in April of 2006 to remodel and
update the facility and reopened it September of that same year.
In 1986,
Douglass Distributing acquired Schneider
Energy of Gainesville, TX. This brought the third expansion for the Exxon
Transport, the Exxon Tank wagon and the Exxon Lubricants divisions. This
purchase also included an office and a bulk plant located there in Gainesville.

On February 1st
of 1988, Exxon withdrew from the delivery of fuel.
Douglass Distributing took action and founded Douglass Distributing
Carrier, Inc and began transporting the fuel themselves.
In April
of 1988, Douglass purchased the Skating
Rink/ Elk’s Lodge and the Pallet Company (formerly known as the Barq Soda
Factory) to expand their compound. This same year
Douglass bought out T.M. Hughes in Celina, TX. With this purchase
they expanded their Tank wagon division and started carrying Mobil Lubricants.
In April
of 1989, a massive flood came to Gainesville, TX. The flood was so bad all the
creeks in Gainesville ran out of their banks. Even the zoo in Gainesville
flooded and many animals were loose in the city, including an elephant. The
elephant was submerged but managed to survive by keeping his trunk above water
and hanging on to a tree with it. The damage at the
Douglass Distributing site in Gainesville was extensive. There was
six feet of water when the flooding stopped. The water also took a storage shed
over a 6 ft fence located on site. The conditions brought by the flood made it
too dangerous to continue to operate a bulk plant there so the office and bulk
plant were closed.
The year
1990 was a big one for Douglass Distributing.
In March of that year, they acquired Sooner Oil located in Denison, TX. It was
at this time that Douglass started in the Propane business and also began
branding with Phillips 66 fuel. In May of that same year,
Douglass also expanded their Sherman compound
by purchasing two pieces of property – the Washateria/ Pattern Shop and the
Buffalo Oil Refinery property.
In
February of 1991, Douglass Distributing
bought out Young Oil Company in McKinney, TX. This expanded their Transport
business and they also began branding with Shell fuels. In March of that year
they began branding with Citgo fuels.

In
December of 1992, Douglass Distributing
placed focus on their strengths and decided to discontinue the TBA (Tires,
Batteries & Accessories) division.
In 1993,
Douglass Distributing opened the award
winning Lone Star #50 that is located at 2920 Hwy 75 North in Sherman, TX. This
continues to be one of their highest volume locations due to the fantastic
placement at the corner of Hwy 75 and Hwy 82.
In 1995,
Douglass expanded their family of brands
once again by adding the Fina fuel brand.
In
February 1996, Douglass Distributing
bought out Bolin Oil located in McKinney, TX. This expanded the
Douglass tank wagon division. Also during
this year, Douglass bought out Hall Oil
located in Bonham, TX.

The
year of 1997 was another big one for Douglass
Distributing. In July, Douglass
opened Lone Star #67 located at 312 North Hwy 75 in VanAlstyne, TX. This was
the first store of its kind in this area. The complex included Burger King,
with an indoor playground, a Subway and a Baskin Robbins – and of course a state
of the art convenient store. This same year,
Douglass also bought out Burton Oil Company in Sherman, TX, which
expanded the Propane division
In January
of 1998 Douglass Distributing completed
their office expansion. The office that now stands is twice the size of the
original office. Then in May, Douglass
bought out Mont Hendricks located in Farmersville, TX, which expanded their Tank
wagon division Also that year they bought the property from Love Monument Field
to expand the main compound further.
In 1999,
Douglass Distributing bought out
Montgomery Oil located in Paris, TX, which expanded the Lubricants division.
That same year, Douglass also traded
property in Carrollton for two existing retail stores in Denton.
In June of
2000, Douglass purchased the Everett
Funeral Home to expand the compound and bought out Sooner Propane located in
Madill, OK. Later this year, Douglass
began using CFN (Commercial Fueling Network) to expand our unbranded fuel
division.
In
December of 2001, Douglass Distributing
began branding with Mobil fuels. Then on June 1st of 2002,
Douglass bought out Blackburn Propane located
in Kenefic, OK.
In June of
2003, Douglass Distributing bought out
another Propane business – Suburban Propane located in Sherman, TX. They also
began branding with Diamond Shamrock/ Valero at this time.
Douglass
purchased the Barney Holland Oil Company’s Shell Retailer Supply Agreements in
February 2004. Barney Holland Oil Company remains a customer of Douglass
Distributing for unbranded products. Not only did this acquisition expand the
Transport Division, but Douglass was also able to start branding with Shell and
Texaco fuels.
In July of
2005, Douglass Distributing bought out
Hunt Company Oil located in Greenville, TX. This expanded their Transport
division. Later that year in October, Douglass
expanded their Propane division by purchasing Hoganson Propane located in
Sherman, TX.
Douglass
opened its first Post Office substation in May of 2006. The United States Post
Office is located at Lone Star #50 at Hwy 75 and 82.
Present
day Douglass Distributing is proud to
distribute 130,000,000
gallons of fuel annually. Their carrier group consists of 15 trucks that run 24
hours a day/ 7 days a week. Douglass has
drivers on staff with access to all local terminals.
Douglass also maintains a maintenance staff
of 8 full time technicians, which are also available 24 hours a day/ 7 days a
week. Their retail division now owns and operates 14 co-branded sites and
employs over 200+ team members.
Douglass Distributing
is a widely recognized member of the North Texas Community and plays a vital
role in that
community every day.
